I have a question. Why is Ronald Reagan the greatest president that ever lived? I hear about him all the time. I guess Mark talks about him ALMOST as much as Hannity does. But Hannity is so enamored of Reagan that if Reagan were to rise from the dead, Hannity would give up on Christ and start worshipping at Reagan's feet. I hate to think people are that way but it takes all kinds I guess.
I know that Mark tries very hard to keep things in perspective but he does go off the tracks where Reagan is concerned. Reagan was just a man and he wasn't all that special. Yes, he was an actor, the governor of California and the President. But at the end of the day he was just an actor who read off cue cards, told the same funny stories over and over and recited memorized speeches. He didn't part the waters or heal the sick.
There are those of us out here who see Reagan as a mortal man who was simply filling the seat of President for 8 years. As well as those of us who believe very much that Reagan was a man who EVENTUALLY saw the game that was being played and tried to do something to change it, with the results of that act being an attempt on his life. The attempt on Reagan's life had nothing whatsoever to do with Hinkley or Jodie Foster. Hinkley was just a messenger boy carrying a message that read "Stay on Script".
To prove out my point, if anyone was paying attention after that attempt on his life you will notice that afterwards you saw very little of Reagan at all. He didn't travel much, speak much or do much of anything. There are those Reagan devotees that will tell you that that attempt on his life was life threatening and at his age the healing process took a lot longer. Well, I'm quite sure that had a lot to do with it. I don't doubt that. But where you see a pattern form is when he leaves office. He did a disappearing act. You NEVER saw him or heard anything from him. It was always Nancy that did everything and went everywhere. Her "Ronny" was at home with Alzheimer's she would tell everyone. "Dear Ronny".
Now the same thing is being said about Margaret Thatcher. After leaving office she became a recluse. Why just like "Ronny" Reagan. And Thatcher also has "Alzheimer's. Why just like "Ronny" Reagan. How odd. Of course we wouldn't know any of this had it not been for "Miss Pris Pot" Sarah Palin wanting to have an audience with Ms Thatcher. But Palin was turned away and refused her demand. Leave it to the British to slam the door in her face. Excellent move Britain.
I never bought the Alzheimer's thing with Reagan. The way things played out after the attempt on his life you could see a pattern there and obviously Reagan knew things. Things that were not supposed to be talked about or dealt with in any way, shape or form. Just stick to the script "Ronny" and all will go along as planned.
So why, why this drunken worship of this man? Why is it that his name gets thrown around and channeled all the time? You can't go to any form of media without hearing it at least a dozen times a day either written or spoken, I have never seen anything like it.
I would think intelligent people like Mark would not fight the conspiracy theories. But he doesn't want to give into them. He doesn't want to have to admit that there is some substance to most of them. Not all, but most. Reagan did what he was told in the beginning of his presidency, but as time went by and he started to see the way things worked he tried to fight against them and that nearly killed him. Why is that so hard to believe?
I love how these talk radio bobble heads WILL NOT give one inch on conspiracy theories. Not one inch. They deny them even in the face of the fact that they are obviously true. Mark struggles the most though. You can hear it in his voice. He doesn't want to believe but he knows as a lawyer that the evidence demands that he look. That legal mind of his won't let him turn away. You gotta love lawyers and their minds and they way they work.
Mark can praise Reagan if he wants to, wish him to be greater than he really was, but deifying Reagan doesn't change the fact that Reagan was just another man doing a job that many other men have done. Nothing special to see here. Personally, I don't think any of the Presidents were/are worth anything. They were/are all corrupt and all had/have their baggage.
People choose what they want to believe I guess and I choose to look at the whole picture. Yes, we all have good and bad in us and none of us are 100% good. That applies to Presidents and heads of state as well. A man who would cheat on his wife will also be prone to cheat on people as well. The ability to cheat is prevalent and obviously a man who cheats doesn't have an issue with it. So what makes him special? Nothing. He's not special, he just has an ability to make people like him. That's not a quality of any substance.
I find it interesting that back a few months ago Scott Brown was the golden boy in the Republican Party. He was going to change the face of Massachusetts, Kennedy country. It took him less than 6 weeks to knuckle under and get with the Washington program. Now he is just like all the other politicians. No difference. What happened to little Scotty Brown? He found out which side of the bread was buttered and he fell in line. Corruption came calling and Brown not only answered the door, he invited corruption inside. Go figure.
The Tea Party sounds good and it looks good, on the surface. But scratch that surface and look at who makes up the Tea Party. Mark and the rest of the conservatives will tell you that it is made up of saintly people from Main Street America. People who want their country back. Well, I won't disagree completely with that description. But what I will argue is that all groups that start out innocently enough will in very short order be infiltrated by more nefarious types looking to move through THE AGENDA. "They" (the ubiquitous "they" or "them") cannot have the people running things. It can look like it or sound like it but the people cannot in fact have any power whatsoever. So the Tea Party that you see today will tomorrow be the next political party. It will begin morphing into a political party as the summer goes along. By November we will see a distinct political party borne out of the roots of the Tea Party. The Republican and Democratic Parties as we know them (I believe) are going to go the way of the dinosaur.
It must be hard for people like Mark, sitting behind that mic 5 nights a week trying to convince himself and his followers that Republicans "good", Democrats "bad". Or let us put it this way instead - Conservatives "good" and Liberals "bad". There, that sounds more better doesn't it Mark?
Your fascination with Reagan though is a bit over the top I think. Come back to earth and accept the fact that all politics is corrupt and all the people involved in it are corrupt as well.
You know you asked the other day where everything went south and people just stopped caring? Well, I can tell you that a significant road marker for you was during the Clinton regime. But if you step back a few years to when Gary Hart was running for president you can gauge the speed of the change much better.
It took one weekend on a boat called "Monkey Business" to crush Gary Hart's career. The people were not going to tolerate that from a potential president. By the time Clinton got into office and got his blow job from dear, sweet Monica the people had stopped giving a shit. So there you go. If you want to know how quickly morals changed there is your measuring stick.
But, I want to pose a question to you Mark if I may? If the White House is the people's house, why then can't the people have access to THEIR house? Why aren't WE THE PEOPLE allowed inside to see and talk to the man that we supposedly put there? Why are there guns surrounding it and everything is off limits to us? No one can seem to answer that question. I thought maybe you could since you had "served time" in the house that is supposed to belong to the people (but the people aren't allowed in or allowed any access at all). Do you know why or have any answer at all to that question?
And please, try to refrain from being an ass when answering and just answer the question.
